REVIEWS/FEEDBACKS

  • CLONE: Licensed from the Life Line label. Japanese Synchro System consists of Calm (Kiyotaka Fukagawa) and Herbest Moon (Kazuyuki Shimizu). They took time to create a monster track wich resulted in a 13 minutes(!) take on A Day In The Life. They gave their vision, flow to create maximum depth step by step. But still it’s a basic track with some basic ingredients; pulsing warm and deep house with a sparse production with narration by Ill-Bosstino (Shinkansen). Flip for the even better instrumental with a sound that falls somewhere in between early Spiritual Life and Ferrer & Sydenham. Another fine piece of art or should we say another Piece De La Resistance on the ever surprising Millions of Moments label.
  • RAZA “GONNA MAKE YOU WORK/AS ONE”
  • Boomkat: Millions Of Moments show some canny A&R skills with this smart house winner from the Sheffield based Raza, serving up two tracks of the finest deep rooted Chicago house infected with a wicked electro soul. Raza has previous credits for Warp, releasing a 12″ through the label some 15 years ago, but recently has come to form with a brand of well studied neo-Detroit and Chicagoisms, as with ‘Gonna make You Work’ taking cues from the lowlit deep house of Mr Fingers with mouthwatering 909 shuffles and a squidgy rubber bassline .The equally effective ‘As One’ on the flip could have come from any point in the last 20 years of house history, referencing Boo Williams, Carl Craig, Stasis and more with a beautifully executed groove. Highly collectable and dead good. Tip!
  • BVDUB “WHERE TO NOW”
  • Smallfish: Bvdub! Excellent way to end my Thursday I have to say and this is another cracking release from Styrax’s sister label. 2 long, deep, melancholic and beautiful techno tracks that roll along in the most hypnotic of fashions. I’m stoked as I’ve never heard these cuts before and once again Brock has proved exactly how deep he is. I love th offbeat on the B-side with its lush chord progressions and subtle shifts in the arrangement and I adore the way everything sounds so… well, so Bvdub! Gorgeous tracks on a superb label… what more could you ask for? Pure class.
  • Boomkat: Brock Van Wey aka Bvdub continues his amazingly prolific output with the first of two limited and sublime 12″s for Millions of Moments this week. Brock explores his niche for stepped dub techno with two tracks built around leaden offset kickdrums and sunken basslines creating a soup of dub pressure, while rich layers of atmospheric synthlines relieve the pressure above in beautiful styles. This is the kind of spacious, sublime low-end techno that the likes of the Meanwhile and Styrax labels have excelled at and is another beautifully realised transmission from Bvdub and the Millions of Moments crew.
  • BVDUB “WISH I WAS HERE”
  • Boomkat: The second of this week’s releases from Brock Van Wey for the MoM imprint explores his steadier 4/4 dub techno pulses in two variations, with ‘Wish I Was Here’ taking a more uplifting vibe with lush chord sequences leading to a dense crescendo, and ‘Vermillion’ on the flip opting for a more muted approach with minor chords and an omnipresent overcast feeling. Gorgeous widescreen submissions, limited copies only!
  • Smallfish: When you’re treated to two Bvdub records on the same day it’s really something to get excited about. Styrax sister label Millions Of Moments delivers yet more beautiful depth in the shape of Wish I Was Here and Vermillion and both cuts roll along in the finest of style. As always it’s the sense of sadness and lush pads that move the tracks along and without a doubt you’re going to adore this if you’re a fan of Brock’s other work. A limited pressing as always from MOM and one that you should snap up immediately. Recommended? Of course, because it’s brilliant!
  • LEROSA “LOVERS EP”
  • Word and Sound: Four very nice stripped & warm but raw US-influenced house tracks by the man from Dublin. Some absolutely stand out tracks from this talented guys who has some obvious influences such as Larry Heard. Theo P and KDJ, but he always manages to give the hot house grooves some kind of unique and own twist. Winner!!!
Absolute Kaufempfehlung.

  • Boomkat: Deep house supremo Lerosa makes his debut for Million of Moments with the long awaited ‘Lovers EP’ following in the wake of warmly recieved cuts for Real Soon and Uzuri. The Lovers EP explores a variety of deep house tempos and sub-styles all tied together with that piquant touch that has signified the best of his work, opening up with the 100bpm jam ‘Arctor’, grinding the rhythm slow and low like the best of the Workshop 12″s from Kassem Mosse and Sascha Dive, and pivoting on crunchin’ snares and a massively sqaushed square-bass that just oozes filth. ‘Baba’ and ‘Circadia’ both work on a futuristic Larry Heard vibe with tinkiling keys adding the soul and a smooth jacking 120bpm machine rhythm adding the hump factor, and ‘Lovers_Bleed’ finishes this highly accomplished EP with a rawer variation riding distorted kicks and robotic hi-hats, all sweetly dubbed and punctuated with the bluest midnight melodics. We could safely say this is one of the best things on MoM for a little while now and any fans of the Workshop/SlowHouse axis need look no further.
